Walk the Line

Walk the Line

I can’t stop watching the trailer for the Johnny Cash bio-pic Walk the Line. Evidently, Joaquin Phoenix learned guitar for this role and did the singing – which sounds uncannily like Cash, although I’m no Johnny Cash crackerjack. But… looks good to me!

Also this reminds me that Country music can be good, and really good if you take enough pills! So much Country music is hyper-Christian, hyper-patriotic and hyper-conservative – i.e. Lee Greenwood

But at least they can afford a nice car and will dance with you.

On Arcade Fire

Well this will certainly add fuel to the Arcade Fire buzz. I noticed a few weeks ago that their album was available in the iTunes Music Store, which seemed amazing since the iTunes Music Store seems to lag behind on the new stuff until there’s a big demand. Guess there’s a big demand because I got this in my email today. Between John Mayer and Gwen Stefani, no less.

Prerequisite: Jingling Bells

Via stereogum, via More Cowbell is a list of great Christmas songs by some indie favorites. I’m quite enjoying them.

Unfortunately, it looks like the More Cowbell site has taken down the links due to possibly going over their bandwidth limit for November, and they have yet to repost those links for December. :(

I’m hesitant to post them here cuz I fear copyright shit. But then again, nobody visits this site anyways, so obscurity might be security… as they say.

Hmm…

Cheeky Tart

Last night I was listening to Fresh Air on NPR when Terry Gross was interviewing Madonna.

OMG.

I haven’t heard her speak in a while and just about fell to the floor when I heard her affecting her voice with her fakey, British accent. Blimey! How long has she been doing this? I can’t believe she subconsciously picked it up while living in England. She has to be forcing it. I think she’s just being all, “Oh look at me I’m a Briton! Tea and crumpets everyone! Living 90% of my life in America what?”

I’ve met people who’ve moved to this area a long time a go and still have the accent with which they learned to speak. Go to any level 100 chemistry class at UWM and you’ll see someone speaking in a foreign accent about Niels Bohr to a group of confused freshmen!

Amazed

Jesus, man.  Yeah.
